Hands Portraits 2018
Mixed Media Installation
Neviges Mariendom, Velbert
Hands Portraits is a mixed media installation presented at the pilgrimage church of Neviges Mariendom in Velbert, Germany. The work centers on hands: the body’s most legible site of labor, gesture, prayer, and daily care, read here as portraits in the fullest sense. Records of a life, a history, a particular way of moving through the world.
Situated within a site of active religious pilgrimage, the work holds the devotional and the everyday in the same frame, asking what hands carry and what they reach toward.
